Briefing March 18

Dear Historians of East Asia,

Things are starting to take shape with the courses. Details for Zoom sessions can be found on the Canvas home page of each course, and it will stay the same throughout the rest of the semester. (Barring mishaps and errors, human or otherwise). Discussions on Canvas will play an important role in mimicking some of our classroom dynamics.

Here’s the schedule for today:

For HST259: Korea, we will meet on Zoom today. You will find an email with the link in your inbox, but it is also available on the Canvas home page. Since many of you couldn’t be there last Friday, I want to make sure you’re all able to get on Zoom, can sign up for our Slack channel, and I want to check how things are going right now. It won’t be long. Discussion board on Canvas is up and running, and waiting for your first response on Thursday.

HST267: Japan: Please add your post to the Canvas discussion by 5pm today. After 5pm, you can begin to respond to your classmates’ posts, and get a real discussion going. Minimum request is two replies, but of course you can go beyond that if you have thoughts on more posts.

HST107: China: Similar schedule to the Japan history class: Please add your post to the Canvas discussion by 7pm today. After 7pm, you can begin to respond to your classmates’ posts, and get a real discussion going. Minimum request is two replies, but of course you can go beyond that if you can.

I went for a walk today, and saw some signs of spring. Hang in there! (with squeaky clean hands, of course)
